I?d like to share this very simple XP utility called ?CAB Install?. Very simple as it will only depend on pre-installed Microsoft ActiveSync file to carry out a Smartphone CAB file install task.

My original plan was to make a utility where one has to ?drag and drop? a CAB file to a designated drop zone until eventually file gets installed on the device. That sounds a bit complicated and not user-friendly so the next option was to do it via Windows XP?s context menu. CAB Install is a context menu add-on. You access the utility by doing a mouse right-click. That way, you can easily install a CAB file.

<strong>How the utility works</strong>

Let me explain some things before you (or someone else) think that this was taken from someone else?s code. This utility serves the same purpose as other CAB file installers: to install a CAB via the context menu?but uses different code of course. We all know that when an INF of a CAB file is fed to ?ceappmgr.exe?, the CAB gets installed to a sync?d device provided correct INF data for the CAB are satisfied. So, INF + CAB + CEAPPMGR ?&gt; CAB installation. This utility automates such procedures. Very simple. Code was written using Notepad. )" class="wp-smiley

<strong>Important Reminders</strong>

This free utility comes with no warranty. Kindly use this at your own discretion. I will not be held liable for any damage whatsoever arising from or resulting to user?s use or inability to use this file. Should you opt to proceed, consider the following?

&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<strong>1. Requirements:</strong>

1. Windows XP SP2 operating system (English language ONLY)

2. ActiveSync (tested on 4.2)

3. A Smartphone CAB file (I have no idea if this will also work with PocketPC CABs)

&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<strong>2. Install notes:</strong>

Once you have the installer, click on it to initiate install sequence. You will most likely encounter this window.

</p>
<p>Click ?Install? button to proceed with installation else ?Exit? if you think this is just waste of time. The ?Delete? button serves as the uninstall button. Use it if you wish to delete all traces of the utility from your computer.

&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<strong>3. Usage:</strong>

Highlight a Smartphone CAB file, right-click mouse, click ?CAB Install?, wait for the file to get installed on the device. Utility logs all processed files (CABs and non-CABs). You can view the logs at ?C:\Program Files\GPC\CabInstall?. File name = ?Install Logs.txt?

&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<strong>4. Known issue:</strong>

Utility cannot process/ install (1) CABs which were ?rebuilt? or those CAB whose setup XMLs edited and repacked (2) Provisioning files in *.CAB extension.

&nbsp;

&nbsp;

<strong>5. Download link</strong>: Click Me

Rapidshare-hosted, File name = ?Install.CAB.Install.ContextMenu.v1.1.zip? , File size = 405 KB (415,299 bytes). Extract contents of ZIP archive on PC then run the setup wizard (EXE)
